Margaret Murray, PhD
Bio
Dr Margaret Murray is a Dietitian and Senior Lecturer. Margaret has a passion for quality and engaging education, which she brings to life as the Course Director for the Bachelor of Nutrition at Swinburne University of Technology. Margaret has a strong track record in curriculum development, having created multiple new units across the Bachelor of Nutrition and in the multi-disciplinary Master of Food Science and Agribusiness (in her previous role at Monash University). This includes a collaboration with the Sustainable Nutrition Initiative and use of their DELTA Model as a teaching tool.
Margaret is an expert in coordinating human clinical trials, with experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Her research focuses on

investigating the health impacts of bioactive compounds in food, particularly in relation to mood outcomes,
-
improving the quality of national nutrition guidelines and their communication,
-
understanding and improving practices in tertiary (nutrition) education.
Margaret thoroughly enjoys supervising PhD, honours and undergraduate research students and passing on her expertise to the next generation.
Margaret has collaborated with the Sustainable Nutrition initiative team at the Riddet Institute in New Zealand, the Fraunhofer Research Institute in Germany, and worked with industry partners Marinova Pty Ltd and Jenny Craig. She welcomes interest for collaboration in relation to both research and teaching.
Margaret holds a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Learning and Teaching. Margaret has demonstrated her leadership as the Faculty of Science early career researcher (ECR) representative and committee Chair (2020-21) and Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences ECR Symposium committee Chair (2022-23) at Monash University, and now as the School of Health Science Academic Director (Pathways) at Swinburne University of Technology.
